On John Lennon, Paul McCartney, & Research Rigor
Yesterday I posted a photo on social media of John in his home demo studio as part of my Kenwood page. The photo set off a lively debate!

Kenwood (Demo Studio)
History of the Kenwood Demo Studio The Kenwood demo studio was room in John Lennon's house "Kenwood" where he wrote songs, recorded demos, experimented, and listened to music. And while it's perhaps not hugely significant from a released music standpoint, it was where John (and Paul) wrote many songs that would ultimately become Beatles classics. For that reason alone it is quite significant. And that's not to say there were no official releases recorded at Kenwood either. Jo

History and Design of Friar Park Studios, Henley-on-Thames (F.P.S.H.O.T.)
**Before I say anything else, I want to say this: F.P.S.H.O.T is located at a private residence. Please respect their privacy. Don't attempt to go there.** History Friar Park Studios, Henley-on-Thames (F.P.S.H.O.T.) was George Harrison's private recording studio from about 1972 and remained so through the rest of his life. In this age of an almost overwhelming amount information about The Beatles members and their lives, finding much information on the history of F.P.S.H.O.T.

Unfortunately the image doesn't show us much detail other than that the mic had a black finish and silver grill. There were two black versions of the C414 released in the time frame with a silver g

Guitars and other Stringed Instruments of Friar Park Studios, Henley-on-Thames (F.P.S.H.O.T.)
The intention of this post is not to be a compensative list of guitars ever owned by George Harrison, rather the ones that I've been able to document were at Friar Park and were/could have been used at F.P.S.H.O.T. While I tried my best to be comprehensive, George owned dozens and dozens of guitars and other stringed instruments in the time that F.P.S.H.O.T. was active so this list is almost surely incomplete. Hard to tell from the photos what versions of B15 it was, there were several with this same visual design. The Ampeg B-15 is a legendary bass amplifier known for its distinctive tone and classic design.

History & Design Of Startling Studios
**Before I say anything else, I want to say this: Tittenhurst Park, where Startling Studios was located, is a private residence. Don't attempt to go there. The house including the studio and much of the grounds were gutted and remodeled in the late '80s anyway.** HISTORY On 18 September 1973, Ringo Starr purchased the Tittenhurst Park estate from John Lennon, which included the studio he built in the house, Ascot Sound Studio . According to Startling Studios manager Mike O'Do

RECORDING EQUIPMENT 3M M64 Tape Machine 1/2" four-track tape machine. This 3M M64 was one of the few pieces of gear from the Ascot Sound Studios days that was kept into the Startling Studios era. Quadraphonic audio was all the rage in the '70s, and I imagine that this M64 was kept with this in mind. The first console at Startling Studios, a MCI JH-440, came with Quad buses as a standard feature so it seems that being set up for quad was an important part of the design of the

INSTRUMENTS Amplifier (unknown make/model) In the brochure photo of the live room, we can see what looks like a amplifier head and cabinet against the wall. The poor resolution makes it pretty much impossible to definitively identify it though. The amp that springs to mind when I see it, however, is a HH IC100-S. The HH IC100-S was perhaps most famous as an amp sometimes used by Ringo's friend and collaborator Marc Bolan. The cabinet even has the large trim of a VamPower 4x12

3M M23 Tape Machine 1" Eight-Track. Purchased by John in 1968. The very earliest photos of Ascot Sound Studios show the M23 as the studio's sole multi track tape. The Beatles first used a M23 at EMI (Abbey Road) Studios in 1968 on "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" and would then go on to purchase three of their own M23s later that year. One of those machines, George's, would be used for the Let It Be sessions. According to Recording the Beatles "George can be heard explaining

My original plan was just to cover John's instruments and amps, but I ended up deciding to cover all the instruments/amps I could identify. If I know or believe that the item was not owned by John or the studio, I put the owners name in parenthesis after the name of the item. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ace Guitar Strap During the Imagine sessions John had
